National Mental Health Month

Playrific joins Mental Health America its tradition of celebrating “May is Mental Health Month,” which began in 1949 to raise awareness of mental health conditions and mental wellness for all.

This year, MHA is addressing these important issues through two themes:

Do More for 1 in 4 is a call to action to help the 1 in 4 American adults who live with a diagnosable, treatable mental health condition and the fact that they can go on to live full and productive lives. Download the Do More For 1in4 Toolkit.

The second theme, Healing Trauma’s Invisible Wounds, focuses on the impact of traumatic events on individuals and communities.  It centers around asking the person-based question: “What happened to you?” Download the Healing Trauma’s Invisible Wounds Toolkit.

Happy Mother’s Day 2012!

A day appointed for the honor and uplift of motherhood by the loving remembrance of each person of his mother through the performance of some act of kindness, visit, tribute, or letter. The founder of the day is Anna Jarvis, of Philadelphia, who designated the second Sunday in May, or for schools the second Friday, as the time, and a white carnation as the badge.

National Lost Sock Memorial Day

Some holidays seem a bit silly so we’re celebrating this one in a toast to silliness.

From theultimateholidaysite.com: Socks are the trickiest part of any laundry day’ aside from folding fitted sheets. Socks have a tendency to lose their mates, resulting in a whole drawer full of sad singles. And it doesn’t matter how hard you try to keep track of them, one will always get sucked into the vortex that opens up at some point during the spin cycle. So today, as you look over all the solo socks you’ve been hanging on to for all these years, pay your respects to the ones you’ve loved and lost.

Things to do to celebrate and find a use for the single socks

Make sock puppets.  a trio of sock puppetsWe found some videos to get you started:

Do you have a dog? Lost Sock Memorial Day is a great day to take all of those mismatched socks in everyone’s drawers and create great new toys for your family dog.
